Happy Mardis Gras!

One of my good friends loves Mardi Gras, she lived in New Orleans for a few years - actually moved up here to Clarksville when she was displaced because of Katrina. She was here for 2 Mardi Gras, and I got to celebrate with her both years. I had never really gotten into Mardis Gras before - now I realize how fun it can be! The fun before the introspective time.

So, let's have a Mardis Gras themed blog today. I think about Mardis Gras - and I think BEADS, MASKS, COLOR, UMBRELLAs, BANDS, etc....

Beads! Beads! Beads! Here are some pretty baubles here at ARTifacts! Becca Droge & Pat Jones have all kinds of pretty baubles for celebrating this festive time! And even better, you can wear them anytime, not just today!

Of course, you have to have Comedy & Tradegy masks - or any kind of masks for Mardi Gras! These ceramic masks are one of a kind art by Erin Slauson. Erin does really fun/funky pottery. These masks are just some of her pieces.

FInally, I think about BRIGHT colors, mosaics, architecture. Here is a beautiful display bowl by our resident glass artist. Lee Ireland doesn't work with just style of glass, she does all kinds of glass art - and has even more ideas driving flying around in her head!

So that is just a few of the things I think of when I think about Mardis Gras.
What do you think of when you think Mardis Gras?

Arrivals this weekend

More new stuff? No way you are thinking! But YES, it is true! With over 29 vendors here at ARTifacts Emporium there is constantly change in the air. In one day 3 vendors can come in and totally change their piece of the shop, creating a totally different look and feel to their space.

Here are a few more examples of the new stuff:

This is one of three new crazy quilts on canvas by quilt artist Jessica Kerr. In the center of the quilt is an embroidered quote by Sarah Hale. There are fun embellishments on the piece giving it dimension. One of the other quilts has an old Irish proverb embroidered, and the final one has a Milton Berl quote that is pretty funny!
Next is this beautifully handpainted antique primitive cabinet in Annie McCords booth in the back room. You can close this cabinet up and see the beautiful handpainting on the outside of the cabinet, but if you want to leave it open the inside door is also painted.

Our final new arrival today are these new wallets & coin purses. They are handmade in fashionable fabrics. And they are very affordable too, making them a perfect gift!

This is just a few of the new additions to ARTifacts this week. Come by and see what else has been collected for your enjoyment!

More New!

So this blog I decided I would focus on new art that has arrived in the shop. We have so many extremely talented artists here - I was never really someone who bought art before. I don't know if it is my tastes are improving or that I am finally seeing stuff I like! Either way, I am in a quandry all the time now with what pieces touch me more - and for what reasons.

Reisa Peters is a wonderful artist that her work just amazes me. But there are 2 new pieces she just brought in that everyone should come see. This horse painting she just completed is fabulous! It would be a great addition to any horse lovers home. This photo doesn't do the piece justice at all - so please come in to check it out. AND her other piece that I am not going to post on here, instead entice you to come in and see if for yourself. It is so freeing, so beautiful!

Many of you are already familiar with Gabriele Wardiener's work both with the DAC and with ARTZ here in Clarksville. She also has a booth here at ARTifacts displaying her work. One of the crowd favorites are her dragons. She does all kinds of dragons in all different kinds of different media. Here are 2 of her new ones. There is one other, but you will have to come down and see it for yourself!

The final art piece I want to share with you is this darling painting by Gail Meyers. This little girl walking through the field of flowers is just so lovely. Come and see for yourself. A friend just commented on how wonderful it is to me - you have to agree!

What's New!

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope everyone is having a fabulous day! I am having a great afternoon with all the young couples coming in and shopping before their Valentine's dinner & then show at the Roxy - Speaking of which - I have to put in here how WONDERFUL the Roxy's current production is! THey are doing ALTAR BOYZ. We went to see it last night for my neice's 17th birthday. Oh my goodness, but I haven't laughed so hard in a very long time! AND I missed at least half of the lines because of my laughing, so I know I missed out on even more laughs!
Don't wait, they may sell out once it gets around how fabulous this production is!
Ok - so what is new at ARTifacts? All kinds of things! I am going to feature a couple things each day for the next couple because I don't want to overwhelm everyone with all the fun new pieces.
So I was in the middle of writting about these 2 new cool chairs that Busy Bee brought in, and they sold! See, you gotta stay on your toes here. Enjoy those chairs Kathy!

Next are some additions to the Kid's Corner. They have found some great home made kids stuff - very near and dear to my heart are these great new slings, made locally of course! The color are great! You will still be a fashion plate, while being hands free with your kids. I used my sling from birth, and the final use was when she was 2 1/2 at the TN Renaissance Faire at 24 lbs for a full 2 1/2 hour nap. I am telling you, slings are the way to go. This vendor has both the pouch style & ring kind of slings, and they are beautiful.
Happy Trails has brought in a few new items, including a serger dress (so neat!) and a few new purses. The fabrics are fun and the craftman ship is outstanding. No one else in town will have your purse.
That is it for this edition of What's New at ARTifacts.
